Dr. Wright shares how a family member can know the severity of a loved one's pain.
They can’t. They simply can’t, and I think that that’s the wisdom is knowing that you really, you can fantasize. You can think about it, you can be respectful of it, but you will not really know, and I don’t know that it’s important that you know how much pain a person is in, but it’s important that you know what you can do to help them transcend whatever pain they are in. And that’s where, again, the pausing, deep listening, observing, paying attention to, and making very specific plans. And what is the commitment for the moment and not over extending themselves or the patient.
