Is there a solution other than internal rods for Fosamax caused femur fractures?

Merck, who makes Fosamax, still denies there is a connection between the medication and fractures although they've been forced to put a warning on about it. There certainly seems to be a connection, based on research.

Surgery is generally needed to heal these fractures and yes, rods are often used.

But some surgeons will use plates and screws instead. But it will all depend on the extent of your fractures. Sometimes rods are simply necessary in order to heal properly, but some people have great success with the plates and screws. Have you discussed that option? I think it's a good idea to see what your Ortho thinks about that.
