This is an interesting read Tina. From what I have read in other areas, drinks like pop (or soda, to some!) coffee and beer can actually contribute to weakened bones. However, this is probably when over-consumption is the problem.
However, I have also read that female beer drinkers often have bigger breasts than women who drink wine or don't drink at all (the woman's weight is not a contributing factor) so the elements in beer (the plant hormones similar to oestrogen) that cause greater breast size would obviously form a connection with bone health and oestrogen.
Fascinating stuff!

Hello Tina!
I agree with Susanc--this is a fascinating article. The research sounds like it was well done and the data they collected seems to support the idea that beer drinkers have stronger bones. I've heard that pop can leech calcium from our bones but this is the first I've read about beer either being good or bad. Susanc, your comment about beer drinkers and breast size is interesting too. It sounds like there is definitely something going on in beer that may help us be healthier in some ways. Wine has gotten a lot of attention for its healthful benefits, so I guess it's beer's turn now! Thanks again so much for the article Tina, Michelle
