Knee Replacement: How Did You Prepare For The Procedure?

When I first met with Dr. Tsao she looked into my eyes and she said, “Bonnie why are you here today?” I looked at her and I said, “I need to have my knee replaced,” and she said, “Which one?” because they were both not looking good at that point in time. So I told her which one hurt the most and so that’s the one I had replaced.

When I talked to Dr. Tsao about having my surgery she explained what would be done. She also gave me a book. It was a binder filled with information about the hospital, about pre-exercises, what to expect at the hospital. Banner also has a “Joint Club” here and they called and we setup an appointment to attend and it was my husband and I who went. We were shown the artificial knee itself, what was going to be implanted. They talked about the procedures of before you went into surgery, what to expect in surgery, and what to expect out of surgery, what to expect once you got back into your room. They told us that you would be up and walking within just a few hours after surgery, and I was.

They told us about the physical therapy that we would have in the hospital and they also went after the hospital, if you were to go home what to expect, if you were to go into a rehab facility what to expect and sort of long-term what to expect from your knee surgery.

The type of preparation that they gave me made me feel like extremely comfortable with the procedure that was going to be done, and the hospital itself. They took us into the room where they were going to be doing the physical therapy. They took us into the ward because the “Joint Club” is a specified ward and they gave us a tour, very informative; it made me feel very comfortable.
