Dr. Harner:
There’s a lot they can do, and one of the biggest causes of knee problems is arthritis. And one of the biggest, the biggest problem in the knee is arthritis and that’s usually secondary to elevated BMI, poor exercise habits, and it can be due to sports too as well, where you have traumatic injuries to the knee. But one of the things that I see very commonly is, wearing out of the kneecap in a patient with high BMI with weak muscles and tight hamstrings; that’s a very common presentation, and all of those can be addressed, by the way, with diet, exercises, and guided by a physician and a physical therapist.
