Francine:

Water exercises don’t over agitate anything because your body weight in the water is about one-third, or maybe it's one-tenth; it’s a very low number compared to your weight on the ground. So, one of the things that happens when people need a hip replacement is they stop moving in the direction where it causes them pain, and therefore, muscles atrophy and therefore, when they go into the hip replacement, they have already gone through ‘x’ number of months of atrophy while they are trying to decide whether they need it or not. So if you do these exercises in the water that exercise all these muscles, it won’t hurt and your muscles won’t atrophy while you are waiting to have your hip replaced.
